An unusual tradition, on the other hand, is the Fulehung, a jester figure who is chased through the alleys at Thun's annual folk festival, the Ausschiesset.

Best time to travel

The best time to visit Lake Thun is from May to September, when the weather is warm and sunny. In summer, the water temperature can reach a pleasant 23 degrees, which invites you to swim and do other water sports. But also in winter it is good to camp here. Numerous winter resorts are waiting to be discovered.

Regional specialities

One of the best-known specialties is Bernese Hobelkäse. The recent hard cheese is traditionally shaved with a planer, also called Tête de Moine, into wafer-thin rolls and served as an aperitif or appetizer. The Bernese Rösti is also not to be missed, as is the Lake Thun fillet of whitefish. The fish, which is native to the lake, is prepared in various ways in the surrounding restaurants and is a delight for fish lovers.
