Special characteristics of the region

Lake Maggiore is a lake that stretches for 65 km from Switzerland to Italy. Due to its location on the border between the two countries, it combines the advantages of Italian and Swiss culture. The lake's surroundings are characterized by picturesque villages, lush vegetation and majestic mountains. The region is known for its mild climate and warm summer months, perfect for camping.

Places to visit

Lake Maggiore offers numerous excursions that are perfect for vanlifers. One of them is the picturesque Isola Bella, a small island in the lake, famous for its magnificent palace and lush garden. Equally recommended is the town of Locarno, which impresses with its Mediterranean atmosphere and its Piazza Grande. The botanical garden of Villa Taranto in Verbania is also worth a visit.

Activities

The region is particularly suitable for campers who want to enjoy the spectacle of nature in the midst of the mountains. Activities such as hiking, biking, water sports or simply relaxing on the beach or in one of the many parks are available. A highlight is the gondola ride up the Cardada mountain in Locarno, from where you have a breathtaking view of the lake and the surrounding mountains.

Events, festivals and traditions

In summer, various music and cultural festivals take place on the lakeshore, such as the "Festival del Jazz" in Ascona or the Stresa Festival on Isola Bella. In September, the "Settimane Musicali di Ascona" takes place, a classical music festival that has been held for over 70 years. In October, the famous market "Mercato di Cannobio" invites you to stroll and go shopping. No matter what time of year, there is always something happening on Lake Maggiore.

Best time to travel

The best time to visit Lake Maggiore is from May to September, when the weather is mild and sunny. Especially beautiful are the months of May and June, when the landscape is in full bloom and the temperatures are pleasantly warm. But also in the off-season in March, April, October and November it can be pleasantly warm around Lake Maggiore and ideal for camping.
